1979 · Shortwave

Turn the dial.
Somewhere, someone is playing a song.

Static, a whistle, then a voice from another continent.

1998 · The desktop

Then the radio moved into the computer.

A few green pixels, a stack of bars that danced, every station one click away.

2005 · The pocket

Then it got small enough to carry.

Every part had a place, and it all closed into one quiet object.

The wheel

A circle you could feel.

Turn to scroll. Press to play.

2026 · The planet

Now the whole planet is on the dial.

62,118 live stations. Not a list anymore: a place.

We went from I want to listen to a radio station to building a time machine and a learning tool.

FM: a short history of listening.

1979: a shortwave radio, tuned by hand through static. 1998: radio moves into the computer, a desktop player with a dancing visualizer. 2005: a pocket player with a click wheel. 2026: more than 60,000 live stations on one globe. We went from "I want to listen to a radio station" to building a time machine and a learning tool.
